Learn how to decorate your own stylish canvas pouch at home with the Harlequin Pouch Block Printing Set!

An afternoon learning to block print by hand, and the tools to carry on long after. Two hand-carved wooden blocks, printing ink and a compact ink tray, so you can print your own canvas pouch, then keep printing on the three handmade paper cards tucked inside, a birthday note, a thank you, or a letter sent just because. The blocks and tray are yours to keep, so the printing carries on long after the pouch.

Made by makers for makers, you'll use the same hand-carved Indian Blackberry blocks, a scaled-down version of the traditional reusable ink tray, and block-printing ink that JOYN uses in their studio. Print the pouch. Build a practice. The included blocks and trays are reusable for years. Made the slow way, from their studio to yours.

This kit includes:

  • 2 hand-carved Indian Blackberry wood blocks in a sun and diamond shape.

  • 1 mini traditional pine wood block printing ink tray with jute ink pads and a scraper, a compact version of the one they use in their studio.

  • 1 hand-stitched cotton canvas pouch with waterproof lining and zipper (9 x 5.5 x 3 inches)

  • 1 bottle of non-toxic, acrylic block printing ink in black (0.84 fl oz / 25ml)

  • 1 paintbrush with a natural, uncoated wooden handle

  • 3 hand-pressed cotton paper cards with envelopes

  • A block printing guide with design ideas.

Other items you'll need that are not included in the kit:

  • A flat work surface

  • Old towels or a yoga mat to create a cushioned work surface

  • Scrap paper or fabric for test prints

  • Tablecloth

  • Apron or old clothes

JOYN has been hand-printing in Rajpur, in the foothills of the Himalayas, since 2010. A small studio started by friends where every bag, every kit, every print starts with a wooden block, a tray of ink, and a pair of hands. The same way it's been done for centuries. Everything is handcrafted and made in-house in small batches. No overstock, minimal waste, and no rushing. They are Fair Trade Certified and provide fair wages and employment opportunities for individuals experiencing barriers to work.

Care instructions:

  • Clean inks with soap and warm water immediately after use.

  • Inks are permanent after drying for 72 hours at room temperature.

  • Hand washing the bag is preferred.
